Mid-Mountain has designed a fabric with a reflective silver color called ARMATEX® SilverStar (Figure 1) in light of increasing demand for a fabric that is aesthetically pleasing.

The lightweight silicone coated fabric is offered in finished weights of 10 oz/sy and 13 oz/sy, targeting better insulation performance. The ARMATEX® SilverStar can be used as a lighter weight alternative to the conventional 17 oz/sy coated fabric employed in the fabrication of removable/reusable insulation pads and blankets. Although light in weight, SilverStar shows better thermal insulation properties, offering the potential for greater energy savings.

The ARMATEX® SilverStar was fabricated from a fiberglass base fabric with a proprietary silicone coating and unique patterns. It has a unique appearance when compared to other coated fabric available on the market. ARMATEX® SilverStar is the suitable solution for applications requiring aesthetics along with better abrasion and temperature resistance characteristics.

The key advantages of the ARMATEX® SilverStar are as follows:

Thanks to its durability and unique appearance, the ARMATEX® SilverStar have found use in many applications in a variety of industries, including:

The ARMATEX® SilverStar can also be used for welding blankets and curtains, expansion joints, safety curtains, protective shields, safety barriers, and in applications demanding a high-temperature barrier.

The Armatex® Silverstar 13 Silicone Coated Fiberglass consists of a strong, flexible woven fiberglass fabric that is impregnated both sides with premium silicone rubber.

The finished weight of the Armatex® Silverstar 13 Silicone Coated Fiberglass is 13 oz/sy. It also has better thermal properties and is produced to surpass the industry standards for the fabrication of composite components and thermal insulation blankets associated with industrial insulation systems.

The following table lists the average physical properties of the Armatex® Silverstar 13 Silicone Coated Fiberglass:

Mid-Mountain uses its proprietary technology to manufacture this unique silver colored fabric. Using this technology, highly reflective aluminum nanoparticles are infused into the fabric, which is then applied with a corrosion- and fray-resistant clear silicone coating over it.

SilverStar provides outstanding shielding efficiency for a range of applications without any risk of potential allergy problem caused by fiberglass or aluminum. Protection against chemicals, weather, and heat as well as elimination of UV degradation can be achieved by using the SilverStar in various configurations. The halogen-free and RoHS-compliant fabric can also be utilized in outdoor and indoor applications.
